The future of pediatric care in Mississippi will take the step from drawing board to bricks and mortar with a groundbreaking ceremony Friday, Dec. 1.
Commemorating the historic occasion for the University of Mississippi Medical Center will be Gov. Phil Bryant; Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, University of Mississippi chancellor; Dr. LouAnn Woodward, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine; Dr. Ford Dye, Mississippi Institutions for Higher Learning trustee; Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba; Guy Giesecke, Children’s of Mississippi CEO; Dr. Mary Taylor, interim chair of pediatrics; and Joe Sanderson Jr. and his wife, Kathy, Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi chairs, among other leaders and philanthropists.
The most important guests, though, will be Children’s Hospital patients and their loved ones, who will be among those turning the first shovel-loads of dirt.
Construction of the new children’s tower will start soon after, with completion anticipated in 2020.
